Co-curricular

As a small rural school, our team of dedicated staff work hard to ensure students are afforded opportunities to participate in co-curricular activities wherever possible. These activities allow students to have new experiences and develop skills and talents in areas which are an extension of classroom activities.

Academic

Coding Club - St Maria Goretti offers a Coding Club in Semester 2 where students learn how to code in an innovative, team environment.

Macintyre Young Writers - Our Year 1-6 students enter a piece of creative writing in the Macintyre Young Writers competition every year.

Sport

Physical Education program -

  • Swimming lessons are held in Term 1 & Term 4 conducted by qualified instructors
  • Athletics training is held in Term 2 (sprints & relays, shot put, high jump, long jump and ball games)
  • A yoga program is held in Term 3 conducted by a qualified instructor
  • District, Regional and State representation trials for a range of sports

Inter-school sport - As well as our own sports programs, St Maria Goretti involves students in inter-school swimming, athletics and cross country competitions throughout the year.

Run4Fun club - Held every Monday, the Run4Fun club allows students in Years 3-6 to improve their physical fitness by giving them the opportunity to be active.

Arts

Whole school musical - St Maria Goretti School conducts a whole school play/musical every year. Our past performances include The Lion King and Aladdin. Positions include cast members, musicians, backstage crew, lighting and audio-visual, costume and make-up and front of house.

Goondiwindi Eisteddfod - Our students enter the Small Schools Choir section in the Goondiwindi Eisteddfod each year. This is an opportunity for students to have a platform to compete, perform and receive feedback from professionals in their field.

Inglewood Show - Each year, our students have the opportunity to enter their work in many different sections of the Inglewood Show including photography, writing and junior art.

Instrumental music - Students in Years 4-6 may learn a musical instrument of their choice. Our Instrumental Music teacher visits on Tuesdays to provide tuition.

Social justice

Mary MacKillop Club - Our Mary MacKillop club provides opportunities for students to acknowledge and explore social justice issues in our local and global communities, creating a just world in the true spirit of Mary MacKillop. The Mary MacKillop club raises funds for Caritas and Catholic Mission Australia.  Opportunities through retreats, liturgies and school camps continue to strengthen students’ awareness of local and global issues and understanding the Gospel values.

Community service

ANZAC Day - Our students participate in the Inglewood ANZAC Day Service every year. All the students participate in the march and the Year 6 leaders read during the service.

Other

Whole school camp - Each year, all students have the opportunity to go on a whole school camp in Term 4. A location that we visit for our whole school camp is CYC in Burleigh Heads.
