From the Acting Principal

A Warm Welcome to Week 4!

Welcome back to another exciting week at our school! I hope you all had a restful weekend and are ready for a productive and engaging Week 4 of Term 3.

It's been wonderful to see the enthusiasm and dedication everyone has brought to the term so far. Our classrooms are buzzing with learning, and it's fantastic to see students challenging themselves and supporting one another.

This fortnight, we have a number of exciting activities and events planned. Please be sure to check the school calendar, notices and Face Book page for all the details.

Let's continue to work together to make this a successful and enjoyable term for all. Thank you for your hard work and commitment to our school community.

Goondiwindi Apex Eisteddfod

Yesterday, our students excelled at the Goondiwindi Apex Eisteddfod, securing first place in the Small Schools Choir section! Their beautiful performance has made us incredibly proud.

Thank you, Mrs Twidale, for your dedication and hard work with singing practice, and to Mrs McGovern for stepping in to conduct yesterday. Your support for our students is greatly appreciated.

Jump Rope for Heart

I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents and the entire Inglewood community for your incredible and ongoing support. It's because of you that our school continues to thrive, and we're so grateful for the way you rally around our students.

This term, our students are channelling their energy and enthusiasm into a fantastic cause: Jump Rope for Heart. We've partnered with the Heart Foundation to raise crucial funds for their life-saving work. Our students have already started their fundraising efforts and will be participating in skipping activities and skill sessions throughout the term. Miss Spencer has also started coordinating a performance with students to perform at our Jump Off Event. It's inspiring to see them so dedicated to making a difference!

Thanks to your generosity, we've already raised an incredible $2,842! If you'd like to help us reach our fundraising goal, you can make a donation through our school's public fundraising page.

Once again, thank you for being such a supportive and generous community. Your kindness means the world to our students and staff.

Mary Mackillop Feast Day - (Celebration on Friday 8th August)

This coming Friday, August 8th, we celebrate the Feast Day of St Mary MacKillop, Australia's first saint and a true pioneer of Catholic education.

It's a special time for us at St Maria Goretti Primary School in Inglewood, as we share a deep and beautiful connection to Mary MacKillop's legacy. The Sisters of St Joseph, the order she founded, were the very first teachers at our school when it was established in 1951.

Mary MacKillop's vision was to bring Catholic education to children in rural and remote areas, and the Josephite Sisters who came to Inglewood were a living embodiment of that dream. They dedicated themselves to nurturing and educating our community's children, just as St Mary MacKillop had envisioned.

As we celebrate her Feast Day, we give thanks for her tireless work and the enduring spirit of the Josephite Sisters. Her motto, "Never see a need without trying to find a solution," continues to inspire us to be a light for others in our community, just like our school's patron saint, St Maria Goretti, and our foundress, St Mary MacKillop.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Liv Osborne

Acting Principal

Library News

Book Week - 16th - 23rd August

We celebrate wonderful Australian children's books all term and we will hold our annual Book Week dress-up parade on Thursday 21st August after assembly.

The theme this year is "Book an Adventure" so there is plenty of scope for simple costumes based on everyday adventures, as well as adventures only possible through story. Children need to give some thought to how their character or costume connects to adventure and be ready to share their ideas on the day.

Exploring the Short-Listed Titles from the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Judges

All classes are spending time with the nominated books and we will have a vote on our favourite title in Week 6. Thanks Mrs Smith for the colourful and creative display of the award books and for decorating our library to add a sense of adventure.

Stories and Information in the Library

Thank you for supporting our library service through the purchase of new books from PEN funds and for enabling free choice reading at home. Surrounding your children with the written language in books and the spoken language in everyday happenings accelerates their literacy development in the most profound way.

Happy Reading Everyone

Anne Anderson

Teacher Librarian
