From the Principal

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to week 4!

Sport 2024

Today I wanted to shout out to our very own Mrs Olivia Osborne. This year, we have been lucky to have Mrs Osborne return to St Maria Goretti after maternity leave. She has taken on the roles as sports coordinator, PE teacher, and is in the 2/3/4 classroom on a Friday. Mrs Osborne has brought renewed energy to sport at St Maria Goretti school.

Last Thursday our students had the opportunity to participate in the Toowoomba Catholic Schools Netball Carnival. The students had a blast competing with a variety of teams from Toowoomba and surrounding schools. I have been told by numerous people that our students represented our school respectfully, demonstrating a high level of sportsmanship. Thank you to Mrs Osborne and Miss Key for transporting and supporting our students throughout the day.

Yesterday some of our students (Jazmen, Pippa, Charlie, Jade, Isabelle, Celeste, and Jessie) participated in the Mac Zone athletics trials. Mrs Osborne has dedicated many hours to ensuring our students were prepared for the carnival. Congratulations to Pippa who was selected in the Mac Zone team. She will compete at the Darling Downs trials on Tuesday the 20th of August in the 100m sprints, and 200m race.

We are very grateful for Mrs Osborne and everything she has put into the role so far this year and we can't wait to see what else our students can achieve in the sporting field.

The Arts - Goondiwindi Apex Eisteddfod

Our students have been very busy practicing for the Goondiwindi Apex Eisteddfod, next Wednesday the 7th of August. Each year we enter the Small Schools Choir section. I want to extend a huge thank you to all the staff who have been involved in preparing our students for their performance, but in particular I want to thank Mrs Twidale and Mrs Osborne. Fostering a love of The Arts is very important to us at St Maria Goretti. Not all of us are sporty or academic. The Arts has the capacity to engage, inspire and enrich all students. We want our students to experience a wide range of opportunities in order for them to become well-rounded individuals. We encourage all parents to attend this exciting event next Wednesday. Please come along and show your support for our small school. We will send out more information early next week.

Mary MacKillop Feast Day

Next Thursday the 8th of June is the Feast Day for St Mary MacKillop. On this day, we celebrate the story of Australia’s first and only saint, the founding sister of the Josephites, who started schools like ours all over Australia. In many ways, she started Catholic Education in Australia with her rural schools in Penola, South Australia, which were set up for students most in need.

The 2/3/4 class will be sharing a liturgy at 2:30pm in the upstairs classroom. All are welcome to come and share this celebration with us.

Our beautiful statue of Mary MacKillop at the front of our school admin building.

I am away from Monday-Thursday next week at the termly TCS Leadership Forum in Chinchilla. In my absence, Mrs Olivia Osborne will be deputising.

Yours in education,

Casey Robinson

Principal
